The FCC is going to bring down the hammerOriginal: February 23, 2006 Last Updated: February 23, 2006 Several news sources are saying that the FCC is planning to fines from broadcasters for about 6 alleged cases of decency violations. The current FCC chairman Kevin J. Martin says that the FCC will take quicker action against broadcasters based on complaints.
The last time I checked we lived in the United States of America where people where innocent until proven quilty. I will never understand how the FCC is willing to spend tax-payers money on filling againts the broadcasters over only hundreds of alleged complaints when the population is over 300,000,000 people. There is a case in which the FCC is expected to file against FOX for an incident where Nicole Richie used the "S" word and the "F" word on the 2003 Billboard Music Awards. I only stated these words in this manner so that if a minor chooses to read this, not to mention I do not want filtering software to filter out my website. I feel that if they are going to fine anyone they should file only againt Nicole Richie because she is the one that choose to use the unscripted word. If there is a scripted use of the words, then the FCC might have a leg to stand on. I have seen one or two episodes of television shows where they use the full word for "BS". I was not offened, in fact it was used in such context that I missed it the first time I heard it.
The news sources are saying that the FCC is going to fine CBS $550,000 for the Janet Jackson incident. The FCC is allegedly going to throw out about two dozen cases in which complaints where found to be worthless. The FCC should keep these worthless complaints on file so that these "complainers" lose creditbility, but I suppose that would be unfair. I wrote the FCC asking where do the collected fines go. The response was as follows: "Yes, the money collected from fines goes to the US Treasury." They did not explain anything else. What is your opinion? Let the world know by clicking here.
